Hi,

This is probably really simple, but how do I create a running balance? For example, if I have a column A of numbers rounded to the second decimal place, and I want to create column B that represents a running balance as:

A B
3 3
5 8
10.68 18.68
-5 13.68

Many thanks,

Elliott

How to change case of text in Excel?
Use =UPPER() for upper case, =LOWER() for lower case, and =PROPER() for proper case. PROPER won't capitalize second c in Mccartney
To avoid Balances appearing all the way down after dragging try this small addition

=IF(ISBLANK(A2),"",B1+A2)

I'm not 100% on what you're trying to average, Is it the average of the previous running average (B2) and the new number (A3)?

In that case it would be =average(A3,B2). You can also add in Pedro's ISBLANK suggestion

Otherwise, to get the average for coluimn A: In cell B1:

=average($A$1:A1)

and drag down

Book2
ABCD
1AB
22=AVERAGE(A$2:A2)
34=AVERAGE(A$2:A3)
49=AVERAGE(A$2:A4)
512=AVERAGE(A$2:A5)
