How to customize column headings

All,

Excel 2010 shows a neat feature when data is imported from SharePoint. It customizes its own column headings. When you scroll down A is replaced with the content of A1, B replaced with B1 etc. This has nothing to do with the view headings checkbox as this is checked in both cases. I would like to know if this behavior can be applied to other sheets as well without the SharePoint connection. Does anybody have experience with this? Appreciate your help.

Regards,

Will the fill handle fill 1, 2, 3?
Yes! Type 1 in a cell. Hold down Ctrl while you drag the fill handle.
