How to format a text string in memory?

I would be gratefull if somebofy told me how to format data in the memory, say for instance how to ADD caracters to a string that is copypasted in memory.
                              
                       There                           must                    be          a            way      
    to           do           things          like            making       
     spaces              between           
     word             or        print          other            formatting          
     characters             in        a          string .
