How to ignore text values in a simple formula

I am using the simplest of formulas in a particular sheet ... B6+G6+G9 etc, etc I promise you we do you far more sophisticated formulas elsewhere !! but on this particular sheet it's the only way I can do it.

I wanted to find a way of getting excel bot to error when one of the fields is text rather than a number - any ideas for a worked around ? I am happy for the text field to always be the word "closed" if needs be.

How about
Excel Formula:
=sum(b6,g6,g9)
