On this formula: =VLOOKUP(E2,'MRC Reason'!$A$2:$F$423,6,TRUE) I want it to just give me a blank cell if the value of the lookup has nothing in it. Can anyone give me advice on how to make this happen? I tried adding an if then statement but it failed.

Excel Facts

Will the fill handle fill 1, 2, 3?
Yes! Type 1 in a cell. Hold down Ctrl while you drag the fill handle.

try this

Code:
=IF(ISNA(VLOOKUP(E2,'MRC Reason'!$A$2:$F$423,6,TRUE)),"",(VLOOKUP(E2,'MRC Reason'!$A$2:$F$423,6,TRUE)))

You could also substitute 'ISNA' for 'ISBLANK'.

That is still returning a value of "0". I even tried getting it to return "Item Not Found" and it still came up with "0".

Try this...
Code:
=IF(VLOOKUP(E2,'MRC Reason'!$A$2:$F$423,6,TRUE)=0,"",VLOOKUP(E2,'MRC Reason'!$A$2:$F$423,6,TRUE))

What is the data type of the value being returned if it's not an empty cell? Is it text, numeric, could be either?

Is 0 an otherwise valid result?
