How to split cell after merge

I have 28 columns from D9 to AE9 to hold day value. Suppose D9 is 29 Dec 2002 and G9 is 1 Jan 2003. I use VBA to merge D8 to F8 and Merge G8 to AE8 and place "Dec" and "Jan" in merged cells respectively.

Now I want two merged cells resumed to 28 cells when the date is changed.

I found it was a wrong idea to place "Dec" and "Jan" in the middle using merged cell. I should use xlCenterAcrossSelection instead.

Any way I want to know how to split the cell after merged.

Any suggestion
Thanks

Excel Facts

How to total the visible cells?
From the first blank cell below a filtered data set, press Alt+=. Instead of SUM, you will get SUBTOTAL(9,)

From Excel you can use Format|Cells|Alignment and uncheck the 'merged cells' tick box when you have the cell selected.

With VBA you would include in your macro (assuming the cell is selected)

With Selection
.MergeCells = False
End With
