How to use Find and count?

In column C3 through C100 I have a bunch of scores like W 56-10, W 14-7 and so on.
IN cell A1 I would like to use a formula that counts how many W's I have in column C. I can find it using FInd, but there are so many pages that Id like to use some sort of formula. Thanks

=COUNTIF(C3:C100,"W*")
