Hyperion Retrieve and Excel 2010 problem

We are starting to migrate to Excel 2010. We also use Hyperion Enterprise v6.3 and use Retrieve which is an add in to excel to hit against the Hyperion Enterprise database. The problem is that we cannont get Hyperion Retrieve to work in Excel 2010 if we have External Authentication on. We use Retrieve on Excel 2000, Excel 2002, Excel 2003 and Excel 2007 without a problem. I built a new Hyperion Enterprise App and got Retrieve to work in Excel 2010 but once I turned on the External Authentication I could no longer log in to Retrieve. When you log in to Retrieve it prompts for a user id and password. Once the password is put in it fails the same as if the wrong password was used. When using External Authentication it uses an xml file to validate the user id and password against active directory. Because it fails right after the password is put in it is as if Excel 2010 is not able to access the xml or active directory file or has some sort of permissions or security issue.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p> </o:p>
On one machine I have both Excel 2007 and 2010 installed. If I run Excel 2007 and then launch Retrieve with External Authentication I can log in without a problem but if I run Excel 2010 and then launch the exact same Retrieve it fails.
<o:p> </o:p>Does anyone have any ideas what we could do to make this work?

Thank you much,

Excel Facts

Which came first: VisiCalc or Lotus 1-2-3?
Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston debuted VisiCalc in 1979 as a Visible Calculator. Lotus 1-2-3 debuted in the early 1980's, from Mitch Kapor.
Hi Dion,

In your call I find that you got this problem once you turned on External Authentication.

We are still using HE 5.1.3 in combination with MO 2003 and are planning to upgrade HE to version 6.3 and MO to 2010.
There has already been an acceptance test for HE 5.1.3 with MO 2010 and this combination did not cause any problem.
Now I wonder, is the External Authentication turned on in Excel or in HE ?

Erik,

I am pretty sure that external authentication was not added to Hyperion Enterprise till version 6.1 or 6.3. It is turned on in Enterprise but the commands for it for Retrieve is in the xml file.

Dion,

I've contacted our Hyperion consultant and he answered me that the External Authentication can be used since version 5.5 .
I'll ask him if it is possible to turn the External Authentication of, once it is turned on.

Erik,

I was remembering that it started after 5.1 but didn't remember that it started on 5.5. Thank you for the clarification. From my testing External Authentication can be turned on and off. It is strange because it works with External Authentication in Excel 2007 but I can't get it to work in 2010. I keep thinking it is a permissions issue on the Excel side but can't figure it out.

Erik,

Can you check with your consultant and see if they know of Retrieve working with Excel 2010 with External Authentication on?
