Afternoon.

I'm tring to write a formula that will return either a "yes" "no" answer.

Basically if cells A1 is yes and B1 is no then C1 = Yes
If A1 is No and B1 is yes then C1 = Yes
If A1 AND B1 is no then C1 = Yes
If A1 AND B1 is yes then C1 = No.

Does anyone understand my ramblings with that one?

Excel Facts

Square and cube roots
The =SQRT(25) is a square root. For a cube root, use =125^(1/3). For a fourth root, use =625^(1/4).
Does A1 and B1 ALWAYS have a Yes or No in it, or might they be blank or have something else in them?

If they always have a Yes or No, simple enter this equation into C1:
=IF(AND(A1="Yes","B1="Yes"),"No","Yes")

Thank you, there are not supposed to be any blanks but knowing the people who will be using it I wouldn't rule it out

What do you want C1 to return if there is a blank in A1 or B1?

Then the formula I provided should give you exactly what you want, as it will only return "No" if both A1 and B1 are "Yes". In all other instances, it will return "Yes" in cell C1.
