hi all thanks in advance for any help given. I'm not great with excel but i bumble through.

I'm trying to set up a spreadsheet so that the on hire date changes colour depending on the status of the hire.
so for example I've got a drop down box in column A with
Delivery Pending
On Hire
as the options in column O i have an on hire date. i want the cells in column O to be red when column A is delivery pending and green when status is changed to On Hire I've been trying conditional formatting but i cant get it to work

Excel Facts

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.
Select the cells with data in column O and try these formulas with conditional formatting:
=A1="On Hire" ---- set the format to 'red' fill
=A1="Delivery Pending" ----- set the format to 'green' fill

Highlight column A, and enter in the following Conditional Formatting formula:
Excel Formula:
=$A1 = "Delivery Pending"
and choose your red formatting option.

Then enter another CF condition with the formula:
Excel Formula:
=$A1 = "On Hire"
and choose your green formatting option.
