i am having trouble with the following scenario. i am inputting escalation dates into a contract database and want to make an adjacentcell show the upcoming escalation date. for example, in a 5 year contract starting 1 May 2009 if the escalation date annually is 1 July, and say today is the 20 June 2011, the upcoming escalation date would show 1 July 2011, then from the second of July, it will show the next date - 1 July 2012.

Excel Facts

What is the fastest way to copy a formula?
If A2:A50000 contain data. Enter a formula in B2. Select B2. Double-click the Fill Handle and Excel will shoot the formula down to B50000.
Try this...

Contract dates starting in A5
List of escalation dates, named range

In B5 put this and fill down...
=INDEX(EscalationDates,MATCH(A5,EscalationDates,1)+1,1)

hey Denis, its been a while. hope you are well. i don't understand how your solution will provide the answer that I am after. won't your solution be looking for a match between the start date and the escalation date?
