IF statement help

I have column A that has route numbers ( 276, 200, B01) some alpha and numeric. I have column with the courier names (Courier 1, Courier 2..etc).
I need a formula that will add the courier names in column B by using the first character of the route number to determine the courier used.

Example: All routes beginning with 2 should be Courier 1
All routes beginning with B should be Courier 2.

Create a lookup table like this:

Ensure that the cells in the first column are formatted as Text before entering any data. Also ensure that the table is sorted ascending by Route.

With that table in D1:E3 you can use a formula like:

=VLOOKUP(LEFT(A2)&"*",D$2:E$3,2,FALSE)

in B2 copied down.

Andrew, it worked great thanks.
I do have one conflict. The D routes are all to one courier except my route DUS. This should be with US MAIL...how can you fix that??

I suppose you could cheat for that one exception:

=IF(LEFT(A2,3)="DUS","US MAIL",VLOOKUP(LEFT(A2)&"*",D$2:E$3,2,FALSE))
