I need a formula that will return the score if criteria is met. Scorecard grid:

SCORE GRID
1 = 79% and below
2 = 80% to 84%
3 = 85% to 89%
3.5 = 90% to 94%
4 = 95% to 97%
4.5 = 98% to 99%
5 = 100% and above

How can I have it to give me a score of "3.5" if the actual grade achieved is 93% which is in between "90% to 94%"?

I appreciate any assistance.

Thank you,

Excel Facts

How to change case of text in Excel?
Use =UPPER() for upper case, =LOWER() for lower case, and =PROPER() for proper case. PROPER won't capitalize second c in Mccartney
Try like this

=LOOKUP(A1,{0,0.8,0.85,0.9,0.95,0.98,1},{1,2,3,3.5,4,4.5,5})

Assuming that the data you want is in a1:

=if(a1>=100,"5",if(and(a1>=98,a1<=99),"4.5",if(and(a1>=96,a1<=97),"4",if(and(a1>=90,a1<=94),"3.5",if(and(a1>=85,a1<=89),"3",if(and(a1>=80,a1<=84),"2",if(a1<=79,"1","")))))))

This should cover the cases exactly as you posted them, but you might want to look at the ranges some, it seems like you could have some issues with certain numbers not being covered, ie 97.5. Hope this helps.

Gee thanks VoG! That works for me. However, please forgive me for my amateur knowledge in excel, I would like to understand how the:

{0,0.8,0.85,0.9,0.95,0.98,1}

works? Because I have a few more others with a similar case that I couldn't figure out how to get LOOKUP to work.

If you don't mind, can you also do the same for:

SCORE GRID
1 = 90% and below
2 = 91% to 94%
3 = 95% to 96%
4 = 97% to 99%
5 = 100%

Basically the list in the left hand {} is the lower bound for each condition and the values in the right hand {} are the associated assigned values. For your second example

=LOOKUP(A1,{0,0.91,0.95,0.97,1},{1,2,3,4,5}))

I'm a big fan of using a table when there are more than a "few" variables.

Sheet1

<TABLE style="PADDING-RIGHT: 2pt; PADDING-LEFT: 2pt; FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Verdana,Arial; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #ffffff" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 border=0><COLGROUP><COL style="FONT-WEIGHT: bold; WIDTH: 30px"><COL style="WIDTH: 72px"><COL style="WIDTH: 72px"></COLGROUP><TBODY><TR style="FONT-WEIGHT: bold; FONT-SIZE: 8pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #cacaca; TEXT-ALIGN: center"><TD> </TD><TD>F</TD><TD>G</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 17px"><TD style="FONT-SIZE: 8pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #cacaca; TEXT-ALIGN: center">2</TD><TD style="BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-TOP: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">0%</TD><TD style="BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-TOP: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-LEFT-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">1</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 17px"><TD style="FONT-SIZE: 8pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #cacaca; TEXT-ALIGN: center">3</TD><TD style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">80%</TD><TD style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-LEFT-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">2</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 17px"><TD style="FONT-SIZE: 8pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #cacaca; TEXT-ALIGN: center">4</TD><TD style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">85%</TD><TD style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-LEFT-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">3</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 17px"><TD style="FONT-SIZE: 8pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #cacaca; TEXT-ALIGN: center">5</TD><TD style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">90%</TD><TD style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-LEFT-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">3.5</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 17px"><TD style="FONT-SIZE: 8pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #cacaca; TEXT-ALIGN: center">6</TD><TD style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">95%</TD><TD style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-LEFT-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">4</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 17px"><TD style="FONT-SIZE: 8pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #cacaca; TEXT-ALIGN: center">7</TD><TD style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">98%</TD><TD style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-LEFT-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">4.5</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 17px"><TD style="FONT-SIZE: 8pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: #cacaca; TEXT-ALIGN: center">8</TD><TD style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">100%</TD><TD style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-RIGHT: #000000 1px solid; BORDER-LEFT-WIDTH: 1px; BORDER-LEFT-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-TOP-COLOR: #000000; BORDER-BOTTOM: #000000 1px solid; TEXT-ALIGN: right">5</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Then:

=LOOKUP(A1,F2:G8)

If you don't mind, can you also do the same for:

2 = 91% to 94%
3 = 95% to 96%
4 = 97% to 99%
5 = 100%
Same thing...

Wow T.Valko that's even shorter and simpler. Thank you! However, I couldn't get neither LOOKUP or MATCH to work on another set of score grids that we have:

SCORE
GRID
5 = "1 to 3 BD ( > 50%)"
4.5 = "1 to 3 BD ( < 50%)"
4 = "4 BD ( > 50%)"
3.5 = "4 BD ( < 50%)"
3 = "5 BD"
2 = "Out of SLA ( < 5%)"
1 = "Out of SLA ( > 5%)"

It's a bit different when looking up text values...
