Can anyone tell me why this doesn't work and what will?
=IF(CJ28="*MERA*","Brown","") if I remove the ** it works fine. But the statement is so long I only want to pick up the beginning which starts the same.

Thanks in advance

Excel Facts

Which came first: VisiCalc or Lotus 1-2-3?
Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston debuted VisiCalc in 1979 as a Visible Calculator. Lotus 1-2-3 debuted in the early 1980's, from Mitch Kapor.

The IF function doesn't support wildcards.

Maybe this...

=IF(LEFT(CJ28,4)="MERA","Brown","")
