ignore parenthesis - easy?

Im just trying to have the cell show -(2) or +(2), for how do I make the cell actually ashow that? Then I want to add them together? The cell must look like that becuase its a dr's office and has to meet regulations, but I cant seem to figure out how to make this and then how to add them.

so for example,

A1="+(1)"
A2="-(1)"
A3= A1+A2 (answwer would be 0)

Just the format the cells as: +(0);-(0)

Try formatting the cells as Custom

"+("0")";"-("0")"

i totally messed my original up. need to be inside the parenthesis. should be "(-2)" or "(+2)" or any other number. Just needs to show the positive or negative and then I need to do the sum function with whats in the quotes.

ok, now I got them to show correctly, thank you very much. how do I get the math to work right? it wont add or subtract based on the cell. here is what I have

A1 = (+1)
A2 = (+2)
A3 = (-1)
A4=SUM(A1,A2,A3)

but the cell returns "0"

i feel dumb. I was entering the "(" with the data so it threw everything off. I got it now. thanks for all the help.
