Hi

I'm sure I am not the first one with this problem, but could not find any solution.

I have a text file with far to many columns for excel.

Is there a way to transpose the columns to rows while or before importing?

Should I try with Access ?

Any pointers are welcome!

Thanks in advance.

One language is much like another. I work in C++, Javascript, Objective C, VBA and several SQLs. I'm often annoyed by the higher level languages because the documentation is so bad. There are 5 ways to do something and they all have different side effects but there is no way to tell which is the one you want from the doc.

Basically it is looking at 1 character at a time (Mostly). It uses a boolean to keep track of if it is inside a quote string or not. If it is not inside a quote string then it tries to match the field separator. I allowed the field separator to be an arbitrary length so it can change something like ", " to "|". Then it builds the new string with that replaced.

Excel Facts

Square and cube roots
The =SQRT(25) is a square root. For a cube root, use =125^(1/3). For a fourth root, use =625^(1/4).
I just logged in to say a big thanks to Tom Schreiner, and additionally to par60056 Brilliant solutions for someone who also knows old school programming (FORTRAN & C) and is not really that adept at VBA, Python, etc.
