we have text files that are system generated.

I need to be able to have a user navigate to any directory they want using the getopenfilename method to choose a text file.

I cant find any good vba that will import the tab delimited text file into the active worksheet.

Anyone have any good code for that so I dont have to specify the number of columns?

thanks in advance

Excel Facts

Copy a format multiple times
Select a formatted range. Double-click the Format Painter (left side of Home tab). You can paste formatting multiple times. Esc to stop
Assuming the variable tPath contains the path to the file:

Code:
Open tPath For Input As 1

tRow = 1
While EOF(1) = False
    Line Input #1, tLine
    tCol = 1
    While tLine <> ""
        If InStr(tLine, Chr(9)) > 0 Then
            tItem = Left(tLine, InStr(tLine, Chr(9)) - 1)
            tLine = Mid(tLine, InStr(tLine, Chr(9)) + 1)
        Else
            tItem = tLine
            tLine = ""
        End If
        Cells(tRow, tCol) = tItem
        tCol = tCol + 1
        DoEvents
    Wend
    tRow = tRow + 1
    DoEvents
Wend
