Importing from another program

Hi Excel experts,

I have Excel 2003 and have a quick question. When I import from another program, extra letters or characters appear in the cell. Is there a way to make sure that these chararcters do not display. For example,
instead of .99 it will import it as .99R. Can I use an if formula to remove these or would a macro help?
