In column A is a list of vendors id numbers and in column c is the formula
=SUMPRODUCT(--($E$178:$E$65703="'vendor ID #"),SUBTOTAL(3,OFFSET($B$178,ROW($E$178:$E$65703)-ROW($B$178),0)))

<COLGROUP><COL style="WIDTH: 185pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 8996" width=246><TBODY>
</TBODY>

I would like the formula to read the vendor id number that is in cell A1. So the formula would like
SUMPRODUCT(--($E$178:$E$65703="A1"),SUBTOTAL(3,OFFSET($B$178,ROW($E$178:$E$65703)-ROW($B$178),0)))</SPAN>

<TBODY>
</TBODY><COLGROUP><COL></COLGROUP>

Thanks in advance for any help

No quotes around the A1 cell reference, but also B, not E, for reasons of coherency :
Rich (BB code):
SUMPRODUCT(
  --($E$178:$E$65703=A1),
  SUBTOTAL(3,OFFSET($B$178,ROW($B$178:$B$65703)-ROW($B$178),0)))
