Hi,

Something like this maybe;

=INDEX(B2:C3,MATCH("a",A2:A3,0),MATCH(20,B1:C1,0))

I tried to do that instead:
=INDEX($B$2:$C$3;MATCH("a";$A$2:$A$3;0); MATCH(B1;$B$1:$C$1;0))

and it gives me:

<TABLE style="WIDTH: 192pt; BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=256><COLGROUP><COL style="WIDTH: 48pt" span=4 width=64><TBODY><TR style="HEIGHT: 15pt" height=20><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; WIDTH: 48pt; HEIGHT: 15pt; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" class=xl65 height=20 width=64>20a</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; WIDTH: 48pt; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" class=xl65 width=64>20b</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; WIDTH: 48pt; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" class=xl65 width=64>30a</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; WIDTH: 48pt; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" class=xl65 width=64>30b</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 15pt" height=20><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; HEIGHT: 15pt; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" class=xl65 height=20>1</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" class=xl65>2</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" class=xl65>#N/A</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" class=xl65>#N/A</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Try:

<b>Excel 2003</b><table cellpadding="2.5px" rules="all" style=";background-color: #FFFFFF;border: 1px solid;border-collapse: collapse; border-color: #A6AAB6"><colgroup><col width="25px" style="background-color: #E0E0F0" /><col /><col /><col /><col /><col /><col /><col /><col /></colgroup><thead><tr style=" background-color: #E0E0F0;text-align: center;color: #161120"><th></th><th>A</th><th>B</th><th>C</th><th>D</th><th>E</th><th>F</th><th>G</th><th>H</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr ><td style="color: #161120;text-align: center;">1</td><td style="text-align: right;;"></td><td style="text-align: right;;">20</td><td style="text-align: right;;">30</td><td style="text-align: right;;"></td><td style=";">20a</td><td style=";">20b</td><td style=";">30a</td><td style=";">30b</td></tr><tr ><td style="color: #161120;text-align: center;">2</td><td style=";">a</td><td style="text-align: right;;">1</td><td style="text-align: right;;">2</td><td style="text-align: right;;"></td><td style="text-align: right;;">1</td><td style="text-align: right;;">6</td><td style="text-align: right;;">2</td><td style="text-align: right;;">4</td></tr><tr ><td style="color: #161120;text-align: center;">3</td><td style=";">b</td><td style="text-align: right;;">6</td><td style="text-align: right;;">4</td><td style="text-align: right;;"></td><td style="text-align: right;;"></td><td style="text-align: right;;"></td><td style="text-align: right;;"></td><td style="text-align: right;;"></td></tr></tbody></table><table cellpadding="2.5px" rules="all" style=";background-color: #FFFFFF;border: 1px solid;border-collapse: collapse; border-color: #A6AAB6"><thead><tr style="background-color: #E0E0F0;text-align: center;color: #161120"><th><b>Sheet1</b></th></tr></td></thead></table><br /><br /><table width="85%" cellpadding="2.5px" rules="all" style=";border: 2px solid black;border-collapse:collapse;padding: 0.4em;background-color: #FFFFFF" ><tr><td style="padding:6px" ><b>Worksheet Formulas</b><table cellpadding="2.5px" width="100%" rules="all" style="border: 1px solid;text-align:center;background-color: #FFFFFF;border-collapse: collapse; border-color: #A6AAB6"><thead><tr style=" background-color: #E0E0F0;color: #161120"><th width="10px">Cell</th><th style="text-align:left;padding-left:5px;">Formula</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><th width="10px" style=" background-color: #E0E0F0;color: #161120">E2</th><td style="text-align:left">=INDEX(<font color="Blue">$B$2:$C$3,MATCH(<font color="Red">RIGHT(<font color="Green">E1,1</font>),$A$2:$A$3,0</font>),MATCH(<font color="Red">VALUE(<font color="Green">LEFT(<font color="Purple">E1,2</font>)</font>),$B$1:$C$1,0</font>)</font>)</td></tr></tbody></table></td></tr></table><br />

gledister,

Sample raw data before the macro:

Excel Workbook
ABCDEFGH
12030
2a12
3b64
4
Sheet1

After the macro:

Excel Workbook
ABCDEFGH
1203020a20b30a30b
2a121624
3b64
4
Sheet1

Please TEST this FIRST in a COPY of your workbook (always make a backup copy before trying new code, you never know what you might lose).

1. Copy the below code, by highlighting the code and pressing the keys CTRL + C
2. Open your workbook
3. Press the keys ALT + F11 to open the Visual Basic Editor
4. Press the keys ALT + I to activate the Insert menu
5. Press M to insert a Standard Module
6. Where the cursor is flashing, paste the code by pressing the keys CTRL + V
7. Press the keys ALT + Q to exit the Editor, and return to Excel
8. To run the macro from Excel, open the workbook, and press ALT + F8 to display the Run Macro Dialog. Double Click the macro's name to Run it.

Code:
Option Explicit
Sub ReorgData()
' hiker95, 04/04/2011
' http://www.mrexcel.com/forum/showthread.php?t=540947
Dim LR As Long, LC As Long, LC1 As Long, a As Long, aa As Long, FC As Long, NC As Long
Application.ScreenUpdating = False
LR = Cells(Rows.Count, 1).End(xlUp).Row
LC = Cells(1, Columns.Count).End(xlToLeft).Column
NC = LC + 2
FC = LC + 2
For a = 2 To LC Step 1
  For aa = 2 To LR Step 1
    Cells(1, NC) = Cells(1, a) & Cells(aa, 1)
    NC = NC + 1
  Next aa
Next a
LC1 = Cells(1, Columns.Count).End(xlToLeft).Column
Range(Cells(2, FC), Cells(2, FC)).Formula = "=INDEX(R2C2:R" & LR & "C" & LC & ",MATCH(RIGHT(R1C,1),R2C1:R" & LR & "C1,0),MATCH(VALUE(LEFT(R1C,2)),R1C2:R1C" & LC & ",0))"
Range(Cells(2, FC), Cells(2, FC)).AutoFill Destination:=Range(Cells(2, FC), Cells(2, LC1))
Application.ScreenUpdating = True
End Sub

Then run the ReorgData macro.

Hi.

mrhiker95 unfortunately your macro when row labels and column labels changes...the macro does not work properly....even when you enlarge the sample by more than 2 row labels and more than 2 columns...that does not work unfortunately!

Anyone have any idea of an improved macro to resolve even other cases which is not that?!

Kind regards and thanks in advance!

Am asking this particular macro(or formula if that's possible) to handle a situation like this(kinda more complexed).

Example:

Excel Workbook
ABCDEFGH
1XSSMLXLXXL3XL
2red t-shirt12
3black trousers33
Sheet1

and at the end we will have:

Excel Workbook
JK
1
2red t-shirt XS1
3red t-shirt 3XL2
4black trousers S3
5black trousers XXL3
Sheet1

That could be even whole horizontally, does not really matter.

Thanks in advance.
