Hello!

I have followed the Mr. Excel video tutorials on how to auto number invoices using a template, Macro & Add in.

I found the tutorials to be very well presented & easy to follow so all is working well in that regard.

My question is this,

Once you have all this working, where & how do you reset the invoice number if the need ever arises? For example, if your invoice number was at 1028 & you wanted to reset it back to 1001, how do you do that?

<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p> </o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
OK,<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Here’s how I managed to reset the invoice number.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Alt F11 to open the Macro for editing.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Change the + 1 figure to a minus xxxx figure & run the Macro (once).<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Change the figure back to + 1<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
You are good to go.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
I was a bit surprised at what was involved in the whole sequential numbering of an invoice? What seemed like a simple task was a little more complex really.<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Is there not an easier way to achieve this?<o:p></o:p>

Excel Facts

VLOOKUP to Left?
Use =VLOOKUP(A2,CHOOSE({1,2},$Z$1:$Z$99,$Y$1:$Y$99),2,False) to lookup Y values to left of Z values.
I would have edited the sheet that contained the value in cell A1, not the macro itself. But if it worked for you fine.

I don't think you fully understand nbrcrunch?

the sheet that contained the value in cell A1 no longer functions once the addin is created. The value in A1 of that sheet gets incorporated into the addin leaving the sheet itself with no further function.

There wouldn't have been a problem at all if I could have done it that way.

The macro used to increment the number in A1 each time it was run but one I created the addin it no longer took reference from the cell.

You can bin that workbook with the figure in Cell A! as it has no further function.
