Is COUNTIF applicable in this situation?

hi gaiz!

I can't seem to find a way of managing this myself. I have two columns, the one has the department names and the other one has the kinds of employees in it. how do i count the kinds of employees per department? thanks in advance!

=SUMPRODUCT(--(A1:A100="Finance"),--(B1:B100=3))

=SUMPRODUCT(--(A1:A100="Finance"),--(B1:B100=3))

will it go like this?
=SUMPRODUCT(--(B:B="Asset recovery group"),--(F:F="contractual"))

no avail: #NUM!

You can't use whole column references. Try

=SUMPRODUCT(--(B1:B100="Asset recovery group"),--(F1:F100="contractual"))
