I have a value in cell B1 - its a free text name with no formula in it - say this name is Black.

would it be positble to write up a formula in cell D1 which would change the value in B1 based on if the status is put to archived so it changes the name to "archived data"

was thinking something along the lines of

=if(A1="archived",Replace(B1,B1,"archived"), "") but not getting any results with this

ABCD
StatusSurnamedate of discharge
1ActiveBlack12/12/25
2ActiveSimpson10/5/24
3DischargedPower12/10/22
4ArchivedTimes08/08/21

Excel Facts

What is the shortcut key for Format Selection?
Ctrl+1 (the number one) will open the Format dialog for whatever is selected.
No, a formula cannot do that. You would need code for that.

If "Black" came from formula, YES
If "Black" was harcoded text from manual input, NO
