Is it possible...

Hello all,
I am an x-excelguru who used to be "the magic man" back in the end of 80's and 90's...Then something happened, Excel changed from the "old" excel macro language to Visual Basic, and I got lost. Together with new jobs (and less Excel use) I lost my magic touch. However now I am in business again where I am in desperate need of my old knowhow. So my question is, can I (and how in that case) use "the old" macro language in todays Excel? Yes, I guess it is like turning back time, but I do not have the time or energy to learn Visual basic:) So all ideas are more than welcome!!

Not everything I do at work revolves around Excel. Only the fun parts.
You are asking the equivalent of how to play 8-track tapes of the Saturday Night Fever movie sound track into a Blu Ray 1080p player. If the world of modern day programming has passed you by, what worthwhile businesses in this highly competitive economy would rely on, much less even be aware of, pre-4.0 macro languages? There is backwards compatibility in all versions including 2010 for XLM 4.0, but it won't get you very far with today's Excel. The functionality and robustness of what you can accomplish by applying a little bit of yourself towards VBA will be a lot more worthwhile than trying to relearn, and rely solely on, an outdated macro language.

Hello,
Welcome to the Board!

I agree with Tom,

What time you saved by not trying to learn, would be lost.

The scale will quickly tip according to the amount of time you plan to use it.

I am guessing you will see a return on this, should you choose to invest, in less than half the time it took to become a guru of the days ago.

Bonus:
IMO, This is the best site for advice about Excel.

Same here. 20 years ago I had quite a library for 'C' language for DOS app's. Got carpel tunnel and had to quit programming.

Started over again 9 months ago or so and started learning VBA from scratch. Kept it simple and just learned the sections I needed at first. Struggled the first 3 months before finding this forum. People go out of their way here to assist even with the most basic of questions.

For me VBA coding is so much simpler to use and uses a lot less lines to do "a lot more" than my old code. Like going from bicycle to car transportation for me (even though my old bicycle had become quite elaborate).
