I am trying to follow some directions about getting a form and subform to work. I have found several references to the LinkMasterFields but cannot find the field itself. In a form with a subform, created with Form wizard, click the little square in the upper left corner, then right click and select properties. I cannot find this field.

I press F1 and enter LinkMasterField into the search term and the help utility says not found.

How do I find this field to view and change it?

Can a formula spear through sheets?
Use =SUM(January:December!E7) to sum E7 on all of the sheets from January through December

I think you might actually be looking at the properties of the form that is the subform if that makes sense.

Almost like you would look at it's properties if you had it open on it's own in design view.

A SubForm is actually a separate object - almost like a control if you like.

Hmmm. I am now confused on two fronts. I clicked the square in the overall form, I think/thought that would give me the outer form. I tried both.

Just now, while trying again and reading your post, I managed to find this field. But it does not show up when I click that corner box to select the entire form or sub form.

I am fried for the day. I will see if I can find a pattern or some method of find this field tomorrow.

The property sheet should have a dropdown with all the items.

If you choose your subform from there it should be selected and you should see it's properties.

For example, I've got a subform called DAUSub which is actually based on a form called DAUList.

When I'm looking at the main form in design view and I select DAUList from the dropdown on the Data tab I see the LinkMaster/ChildField properties.

If I select the top left of that form so that the black square appears the properties on that tab change to the 'normal' form properties.

I know it's confusing and I'm not sure if it helps, but in the 'olden' days you had to make any changes to the subform by opening it separately.

Well that's what I did anyway, perhaps you've always been able to do this 'in-line' editing of subforms and noboboy told me.:)

I think I have it now. Directly selecting the sub form by clicking on the upper left hand corner square will not show this field. I can get there by selecting the main form, then clicking within the sub form. Or selecting the main form, then use the drop down list at the top of the properies form to select the subform by name.

Ya gotta sneak up on it.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.
