Hi,

I have a data table with Row and Column headers and information within the table. I need to look for the min value in the row and return the column header of the column that min value is found in.

Any suggestions?

here is how the table looks:

__________Data Table_______________Values I Need

__Address1_Address2_Address3_______MIN___Column
1____10________20_______30____________10____Address1
2____50________40_______60____________40____Address2
3____90________80_______70____________70____Address3

the min function is easy, but how do I return the column header? I cannot use an If(then) because there are too many columns. the above is just a snapshot.

Thanks,
Craig

D2, just enter and copy down:
Code:
=MIN(A2:C2)

E2, control+shift+enter, not just enter, copy across, and down:
Code:
=IF(COLUMNS($E2:E2)<=COUNTIF($A2:$C2,$D2),INDEX($A$1:$C$1,
    SMALL(IF($A2:$C2=$D2,COLUMN($A2:$C2)-COLUMN($A2)+1),
      COLUMNS($E2:E2))),"")

SMALL(IF($A2:$C2=$D2,COLUMN($A2:$C2)-COLUMN($A2)+1),
COLUMNS($E2:E2))),"")
If you index the entire row then you don't need to calculate an "offset correction".

=IF(COLUMNS($E2:E2)>COUNTIF($A2:$C2,$D2),"",INDEX($1:$1,SMALL(IF($A2:$C2=$D2,COLUMN($A2:$C2)),COLUMNS($E2:E2))))
