I have a cell reference (a date) which I want to look up in a range, but I need excel to move down one row and give me the next date. I have tried combing index and match functions but i cant get it to work.

Excel Facts

Which Excel functions can ignore hidden rows?
The SUBTOTAL and AGGREGATE functions ignore hidden rows. AGGREGATE can also exclude error cells and more.
Presume the date you're looking for is in cell E1. And your list of dates is A1:A10.

=index(A1:A10,match(E1,A1:A10,0)+1,1)

With a list of dates in column A and a date to lookup in B1 try

=INDEX(A:A,MATCH(B1,A:A,0)+1)
