I have dates in column A with Sales info in column B. Row 2 has dates and the rows 3 on have cash receipts. I am trying to find the formula, or function, that will look down column A for a specified date, then look for the same date in row 2 and return the amount in the intersecting co-ordinate cell.

Try like this

=INDEX(B:B,MATCH(C1,A:A,0))

where C1 contains a date of interest.
