This seems to basic, but I can't for the life of think of what formulas to use. I need to lookup the name of something and add the numbers in the column next to it.
ie
A 1 Value for B is 2
B 1
C 1
D 1
B 1
D 1

Excel Facts

Why does 9 mean SUM in SUBTOTAL?
It is because Sum is the 9th alphabetically in Average, Count, CountA, Max, Min, Product, StDev.S, StDev.P, Sum, VAR.S, VAR.P.
Try something like

=SUMIF(A:A,"name",B:B)

where "names are in column A and numbers in column B
