Dear All Mr. Excel Members,

First I wish all of you and your loved ones are healthy and well.

I would appreciate if you could help me with an issue I have.

I have a column with a list of persons and below I have some elements (types) which belong to the name. However in the column range, a new name appears with the respective elements. The issue is that there are different elements for different name and there is no pre-determined nr of rows when the name appears.

In the "H" Column I want to show the name as it is shown in the below picture.

There is the list of elements in another excel sheet as in the other picture below. (sheet Liste Metoda pagese).

Note that the list in column "A" may go to hundreds or thousands and it consumes a lot of time to do manually.

You could help me with the answer in VBA or formula, no problem.

I hope to have been clear in my question.

Hope to receive some help from the members of this forum.

Wishing the best for you all!

Gerti

How to change case of text in Excel?
Use =UPPER() for upper case, =LOWER() for lower case, and =PROPER() for proper case. PROPER won't capitalize second c in Mccartney
Welcome to Mr. Excel,

Would you please indicate what version of Excel you're running and also show your sample data and results you expect using XL2BB. Thank you.

Thanks so much for your reply,

I am using Excel 2016. I pasted a picture of the data I would expect, perhaps it is not visible.

The image is visible, but if you use XL2BB (on the top tool bar), we won't have to retype your data.

How about
Excel Formula:
=IF(E2="",A2,H1)

The problem I see with repeating the names from the A column into the H column is there is no consistency in the number of rows in each block.
If it were always the same number, that would be a different story.

Not sure that's a problem. From the image it appears that the only time col E is blank is the first row in each block, so the formula I suggested should work.
