I created a conditional formatting rule that would color a cell gold if it contained an A (B,C,D remain white). When I create it, it works fine, but when I change the dataset (overwrite the old dataset with fresh data), I often lose the rule or it changes on its own. I then have to go back and re-establish the rules for 30 columns. Is there a way to make the conditional formatting rules more permanent?

Excel Facts

How to total the visible cells?
From the first blank cell below a filtered data set, press Alt+=. Instead of SUM, you will get SUBTOTAL(9,)
How are you overwriting the dataset? If you are doing a Paste operation, it will remove all existing formatting, including conditional formatting. If that is what you are doing, then do a Paste Values instead of Paste. That will preserve formatting.
