match/index problem

Hi all,
Ive struggling with the following scenario. I've been looking through various boards, including this one and thought I had cracked it. But It didnt work.
It seems to be a match/index problem.

I've simplified the example slightly, so it may sound a little silly. I'm copying in data from another source (sheet 1) and need to find the ID number and add it to my sheet (sheet two)

I have two sheets
Sheet 1 has 3 Columns
A........B.........C
ID....Make.....Model

Sheet two has 3 columns
A.......B............C
ID....Make.....Model

I need a formula for sheet 2 ID column. It needs to take Make and Model data from sheet two find the corresponding row in sheet one (both make and model data needs to match) and copy the ID number to sheet two.

Note: that in my actual spreadsheet the ID column isnt always to the left so I dont believe lookup will work.

I've hopefully explained that well. Any Help much appreciated.

the formula for A2 in Sheet 2:
=INDEX(Sheet1!A:A,MATCH(B2&C2,Sheet1!B:B&Sheet1!C:C,0),0)
Use Ctrl+Shift+Enter to get it to work

Hi Ganglin, Thanks for your quick reply. That works, well the formula runs which is more luck that I was having. However its not returning the correct ID's. Neither value matches. Could this be an issue with the makes and models being text?

hmm, that is most curious, could you post a sample of the actual data?
that should give me a better idea as to what is wrong

Looks like I've fixed it. Was just a case of making the values absolute. Thanks for your help!
