For each cell from table 2 I need to check if it matches some of the values from Column 1 of table 1. And if yes - then I need the price that Is corresponds to the matching value.
Is it possible to do it with a formula? Or I need a macro?
I'm desperate, can't solve it. Please, help!

For each cell from table 2 I need to check if it matches some of the values from Column 1 of table 1. And if yes - then I need the price that Is corresponds to the matching value.
Is it possible to do it with a formula? Or I need a macro?
I'm desperate, can't solve it. Please, help!

One way...

Assuming the values in column 1 of the table are unique.

Table in the range A2:B10

Values to match starting in cell D2 going down the column.

Enter this formula E2 and copy down as needed:

=SUMIF(A$2:A$10,D2,B$2:B$10)

Lets break the function down into two separate functions. First, the INDEX() part.

This function has the syntax =INDEX(array,[row number],[column number]). Here is a description of the arguments:
  • Array: The column (or two-dimensional area) that contains the values you want returned. In your case, you wanted to return a value from Sheet1!B:B.
  • [row number]: This is an optional argument (meaning it can be omitted when not needed). This will go x-rows down in the array defined. So if you defined the array B:B, then if you put in 2 for [row number], it will return B2, if you put in 10 for [row number], it will return B10. However, lets say you defined the array A10:A30. If you put in 2 for [row number], it will return A12 (the second row of the array defined). If you put in 10 for [row number], it will return A20 (the tenth row of the array defined)
  • [column number]: Another optional argument which functions the same as row number, but instead chooses the column in the array.
Now lets look at MATCH. It has the syntax: =MATCH(lookup_value, lookup_array,[match type]). MATCH will return the row of the lookup_array that the lookup_value is found in. (Not row #, but row of the array, similar to how INDEX works)
  • lookup_value: This is the value you want to find in the lookup_array
  • lookup_array: A one-dimensional array of values you want to find the lookup_value in.
  • [match type]: This is an optional argument. If you want to find an exact match, then you must enter 0 for this. Otherwise, if you want to find the closest match (without going over), your data must be sorted ascending and you can omit this value (or enter 1)
Putting the formulas together, since MATCH returns the row of the array, we put that in for the [row number] argument of INDEX. You just need to make sure that your INDEX and your MATCH functions have the same size arrays.
