Hi all,

I am trying to get my head around a MAXIF function but it doesn't seem to want to work. I am not sure if I need something else instead?

If Column A has a choice of letters, A, B, C, D but there are 30 rows of these and in column B, each letter is numerically ranked, so there could be 7 A's ranked 1-7, 9 B's ranked 1-9, etc. What I then need is to know there is 7 A's without counting. I have a spreadsheet with 17,000 rows on it so any sort of formula to help would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks

Thank you Fluff, this works so well and I can specify the cell in the third criteria instead of having to choose a grade
