Month to date totals

I have a table containing information about a series of companies. The company numbers are in column 1. I have reporting dates in column 2. In column 3 and 4 are planned and actual numbers. I want to report the month to date totals for each of the companies. The table is sorted based on company number then by date. I tried sumif but was unable to determine how to drive the argument for the date range. Also, I only want to sum relevant cells based on meeting the criteria of current month and company number. Anyone have a suggestion?

Excel Facts

Which came first: VisiCalc or Lotus 1-2-3?
Dan Bricklin and Bob Frankston debuted VisiCalc in 1979 as a Visible Calculator. Lotus 1-2-3 debuted in the early 1980's, from Mitch Kapor.
Try lookin into SUMPRODUCT to sum ranges meeting two or more criteria

It sounds like you simple task, it would be a lot easier to follow if you posted up a short example using the colo worksheet utility noted below. It sure helps a lot to see visually the data you have to work with and the expected outcome you wish to see, rather than going back and forth several times. There are a lot of experience users on this forum.

good luck

I have approximately 2 months of data at any given time.

I have solved the problem quite easily with the conditional sum wizard. Maybe I was looking for a complex solution where none was needed.
