Multi User Excel Programs

Does anyone have any direction on suggestions on formats or platforms that can be used so that multiple users can use an excel program/database, making updates and adjustments, that all save back into a common database? Or even an excel to software conversion platform that would accomplish this?

Note - Have a large database and reporting tool that we use for our clients. The number of functions that it needs to be able to perform is outpacing what one person can get done in a single day, so looking for some options to convert this into something that is more robust and allows for multiple users at once.
