Multiple Cell selection Error

When I try to select Multiple cells using CTRL (Trying to clear contents with right click) I have started receiving an error message.

ERROR - Multiple range selection

When I say okay to the error, the message re-appears with the same error - then after saying okay a 2nd time the ribbon for clear content selection comes up
and I am able to proceed.

I have been using this process for a while now with no problem, but then just started receiving this error today?

I am eventually able to complete the task but must go thru 2 error messages first before it will allow me to proceed.

Does anyone know how i might fix this? or if this is due to an excel update that maybe happened recently ?

Thanks in advance.
