Want to look for patient names (ID #'s don't match) on separate lists. One list has last name, first initial. Other list has first and last name. Is it possible to do a v-lookup that gives me match based on whether the lookup finds a match on the larger list that has first and last names it it sees the last name AND the first letter of the first name?

Or a better way to do it?

Do you hate GETPIVOTDATA?
Prevent GETPIVOTDATA. Select inside a PivotTable. In the Analyze tab of the ribbon, open the dropown next to Options and turn it off
On the sheet with the First Name / Last Name, you would first need to reconstruct that string into the proper format, then compare that to the other column of data.

Will give it a shot- I've never used LEN and FIND before so need to investigate those so I can fully understand what you've done instead of just blindly inputting the formula

Thanks!

That's why I split out the C and D example above, to help you see just that part working. Input the formulas given, then use the Evaluate Formula button on the Formula Auditing toolbar.
