Multiple VLookups

Hi ~

I am trying to gather data using multiple VLookups. My predicament is that there are the same account numbers with multiple cost centers, and I need to populate an account number with a specific cost center. Sheet 2 has the identical information and using it as the base for the vlookups, but it needs the current information from Sheet 1.

I was trying an if/then with nested "and" statement with multiple vlookups in the "and" section, but that did not work. I am looking for a formula to lookup account number (123456) and specific cost center in the range of cost centers and give me the dollars in the amount column for the specific cost center.

Wylee,

Does a cost centre have more than one account?

If not, would it not just be possible to do the vlookup based upon the cost centre and totally ignore the account number?

Just a thought.

The other way would be to insert a new column A and create a unique ref in it. The unique ref would be something like:

= A1 & B1

Where A1 is the account number and B1 is the cost center.

Then use this ref in the VLOOKUP.

Yes .. there are multiple account numbers and multiple cost center combinations each on sepearat lines .. that is my issue .. I guess I should have put other account numbers with the same cost centers in there ..

that is a great idea .. but I want to leave the data in sheet one as a "dump" from our system .. (idiot proof) ..

Could you create the ref in column A, hide it and therefore only allow people to paste the new data into the first cell in B?

Not sure if I understood the problem, if my assumption is correct, then here is 2 different approach to get the value based on Acc # and corresponding Cost center.

Excel Workbook
ABCDE
1Sheet 2
2Acc NumCost Cntr.AmountAmount
31234563111285.00285.00
41234564111 (100.00) (100.00)
