I need to finish a project I'm working on tonight so any help is appreciated.

I'm looking for a formula that will look at today's date and place the previous Monday's date in the cell. If it's Monday, it should recognize that as well.

Example, today is Monday the 17th. The formula should return 1/17/04.
Example 2, when it's Friday the 21st. The formula should return 1/17/04.

I have no clue how to do this. I was thinking using an IF statement combined with =today() somehow.

Excel Facts

Does the VLOOKUP table have to be sorted?
No! when you are using an exact match, the VLOOKUP table can be in any order. Best-selling items at the top is actually the best.
Try the following...

=TODAY()-WEEKDAY(TODAY(),3)

Hope this helps!
