needing formula

I am looking for a formula to calculate a value based on a few variables:<o></o>
<o></o>
I basically have a total cost column and next to it i have another column which is our cost code number (for example 1 all the way to 15)<o></o>
<o></o>
What I want to know is if there is a way to add up all the cost values that correspond to the cost codes (so if there was 4 number 1 entries can you totals all relevant cost cells together?)<o></o>

It sounds like you want a SUMIF formula.

See if this does what you want.

Let's assume this is your data in the range A1:B10

You want to get the sum total for code 1.

Use a cell to hold the criteria:

• D2 = 1

Then:

=SUMIF(B2:B10,D2,A2:A10)
