I have an access db which links onto an excel file. I have a column of data which are dates. Most of the data is OK but there is some data which comes out as #Num!. Any ideas why this is happening and how to rectify it?

Can you AutoAverage in Excel?
There is a drop-down next to the AutoSum symbol. Open the drop-down to choose AVERAGE, COUNT, MAX, or MIN
How is the field formatted in the Access table?
How is it formatted in Excel?

Are they formatted and entered as dates in Excel for all entries?
Are there any "blank" or "text" entries in Excel?

Formatted as date.
Found that if I place my cursor in the 'formula bar' and then go to another cell, then go into the linked xls file it solves it?

Identify one of the cells causing this problem, let's say it is cell A10.
BEFORE clicking on it (like you said that fixed it), enter this formula in any blank cell on your worksheet:
=ISNUMBER(A10)

If that returns FALSE, it means that your entry is a Text entry. Clicking on it may switch it to a numeric/date entry.

It came up as FALSE. Thanks for your help, I will remember that in future.
