Old spreadsheet called when run macro

I use a spreadsheet on a monthly basis so I copy it each month and rename it with the current month. When I run the macros in the current month spreadsheet excel calls an old version of the spreadsheet to get the macro. I then have to close the current spreadsheet and the old spreadsheet. How can I stop excell from calling that old spreadsheet and simply use the macro that has been copied in the current month spreadsheet. Thanks
