Hello Folks,
New to this forum, and not quite the expert in Excel.
I have been asked to create timesheets for the engineers in my department. Basically, there are 8 timesheets, M-F for every week till the end of the year.
Each night, each engineer opens his own excel sheet, enters the hours worked against each unique project, saves and closes.
The row containing the summary, say Row 100, is linked to a 9th master spreadsheet. So when I open the master spreadsheet, I get 8 notifications that sheet 1, 2, 3...8 is already open, etc etc etc...they're not, but Excel opens them momentarily to update the data from the linked rows from each timesheet into the master.
This is not an issue, the system, crude as it is, works, and the boss is happy.
The problem is, it seems only I can update the links when the master is opened. When anyone else opens the master sheet, the links do not update, and they don't get the notification that sheet 1, 2, ...8, is already open.
This means, if I go on holidays, and the engineers update their sheets, when someone else opens the master sheet, it will not update.
We are all using Excel 2007.
The files are all in the same folder on the server, and we all have full rights assigned to each file. There is no difference.
i have gone into Excel Options --> Advanced, and there is a checkmark after:
When Calculating This Workbook
Update Links to Other Documents
Save External Values
Not sure what else I can do....don't even go to macros, I know even less about them.
Any suggestion is appreciated.
