I am trying to find the average of 99000 single digit numeric grade scores earned by students in the last school year. Can anyone help me find a way to do this, or point me to a post which addresses overcoming the 255 character limit in Excel. Thank you.

Which 255 character limit?
Can't you just use the average function?

When I take a portion of the column where my numbers are, the average works fine. K1:K100 works fine. But when I try to average K1:K99999, I get a #NA response.

That has nothing to do with any character limit, it sounds more as though you have a #N/A somewhere in that range.
