I am trying to create a formula that gives me the difference between two numbers and what that percentage. I am currently going under the assumption that if I have 100 in cell A1 and 110 in B1 the percentage of difference would be 10%. The formula I used was the following =SUM(A1-B1)/100. However when I place actual numbers 496 A1 and 944 B2 I get 448%. This doesn't seem correct can someone help?

How to show all formulas in Excel?
Press Ctrl+` to show all formulas. Press it again to toggle back to numbers. The grave accent is often under the tilde on US keyboards.
Just for information purposes can you explain this formula.

Seriously? It's basic maths. The % diff is the difference of the 2 numbers, divided by one of the numbers.

Your formula was the difference divided by 100, which will only work when A1=100

If the numbers were swaped 100 A1 and 110 B1 to show 110 A1 and 100 B1 it gives me a -9% which doesnt makes sense to me, shouldnt it be -10%.

Are you sure the contents of A1 and B1 are EXACTLY 100 and 110? Are there any decimal places that aren't shown?

-9% (roughly, this is a rounded percentage) is correct. A 10% drop from 110 would be 99 not 100.

11 is 10% of 110.
