Hello. I have a column called "Part Number". This number is composed of many components to create the number (CB-U-5-1234). These components are part of pick lists in different columns (one column per number component)on my spreadsheet. I would like the users to be able to enter the part number and have the other columns filled in based on this number. So for the example above, the column "Item Type" would be populated with "CB - Cabling" automatically because "CB" is used in the part number column. I know I could do it the other way but our users like to use part number so it would save the hassle of going to pick all the different values.

Hope someone can help.

Excel Facts

Add Bullets to Range
Select range. Press Ctrl+1. On Number tab, choose Custom. Type Alt+7 then space then @ sign (using 7 on numeric keypad)
YOu can do this with a series of look up tables and formulas that parse the item number up to look up a value.

I would suggest posting a sample file so that the users can assist.
