Today I noticed that Values in any PivotTable using Data Model cannot be re-ordered. Attempting to do so will with Drag&Drop or Move Up/Down will remove the Value from the PivotTable. It just disappears, making it impossible to work with pivottables.

This behavior only appears if "Add to DataModel" is ticked, but not if it is left unticked. The behavior happens even in Safe Mode regardless of the file and restarting the computer.

Can someone replicate?

My version: Microsoft Excel 365 MSO (16.0.13801.21004) 32-bit

VLOOKUP to Left?
Use =VLOOKUP(A2,CHOOSE({1,2},$Z$1:$Z$99,$Y$1:$Y$99),2,False) to lookup Y values to left of Z values.
I did a complete re-install of Office from 32-bit to 64-bit using the MS Office uninstall tool, but the problem remains even in /Safe mode.

What could possibly cause this? It's a debilitating bug.

New version: Microsoft Excel for Microsoft 365 MSO (16.0.1381.21050) 64-bit

Did some testing:

Bug: Changed order of Value Fields in PivotTable sidebar using Drag & Drop, Move Up/Down/Beginning/End
No bug: Changed order of Value Fields on Spreadsheet itself using Drag & Drop
No bug: Dragging from from any other Fields to any Value Field position

Works fine for me in 16.0.14706.20000 64bit

Ok very strange. I'm on the semi-annual enterprise version, which is supposed to be extremely stable.

Also I noticed that it's only possible to Drag&Drop on the spreadsheet itself from left-to-right, but not right-to-left. Odd indeed.

Problem was resolved by changing update channel from Semi-Annual to Current Channel (16.0.14527.20270).

So the bug is in at least these 2 semi-annual builds:
  • 16.0.13801.21004 32-bit
  • 16.0.13801.21050 64-bit
Thanks so much for the help @RoryA!
