HI all,
I have a pivot table with data grouped into months going across and into sales or purchases going down. I want to add a running total (At grand_total level only) that shows closing balance for each month.

I know the Opening balance but want to add sales+purchases+previous months closing or my opening balance figure in case of the first month.

So far I have been able to create a calculated item at this level that will add sales+purchases for each month to give me net-movement. I created this item as Name=NetMovement formula=Sales+Purchases
I then tried to usecreate Name=Balance Formula=NetMovement+Balance[-1]

The [-1] doesnt seem to work on an item.

Any thoughts on how to achieve this?

How to show all formulas in Excel?
Press Ctrl+` to show all formulas. Press it again to toggle back to numbers. The grave accent is often under the tilde on US keyboards.
OK I guess this is in the too hard basket.
Another solution to my problem would be to have The Grand total display a running total but the details still only show actual value.

When I create a running total field it displays for every item.
Is it possible to surpress the running total at item level but display as summary level?

Back Log Amount

I am trying to get the same problem solved by calculating a rolling backlog amount. I have the P.O. Amount for a Project, and the amount worked on the project each month. The Backlog Amount needs to be calculated each month based on the amount work so the Backlog Amount would essentially be the Amount Remaining from the P.O. Amount each month.

Did you find a solution?
