In Excel 2003, you could view the Pivot Table layout tool to manually move your fields around. Where is this control in Excel 2007?

Also, there was an auto format control button in 2003 for Pivot Tables and i can't find that either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Excel Facts

What is the shortcut key for Format Selection?
Ctrl+1 (the number one) will open the Format dialog for whatever is selected.
For the first problem:
In 2007/2010 right mouse-click the pivot table and select "PivotTable Options". On the "Display" TAB select the "Classic PivotTable Layout" option.
Cannot help you with the other issue as I no longer have access to Excel 2003.

I think you are talking about the Pivot Table styles on the Design tab in the PivotTable Tools area. (there is, thankfully, no direct equivalent of the PT autoformat anymore)

Thanks for the help on the layout, but I don't know why it is a good thing that the Pivot Table auto format option was taken away in Excel 2007.

Largely because I thought all the formats were hideous and you couldn't change them. With the new PT styles, you can set them up pretty much however you like. It is, however, a personal thing.

What I liked about the auto formats was the way that Excel then interpretted what you wanted to see and changed the layout to be an easier read. The color combinations were pretty generic and a pain to change.

I guess we differ there - that really annoyed me. I prefer to keep formatting and layout entirely separate and I like to do the layout myself.

At least now you have the perfect chance to practise as you have no choice. ;)
